Why M.M.E is Better than Many Other Engineering Branches?

Best Alternative MME Engineering Branch

M.M.E. Engineering Employment NewsIntermediate or 10+2 students who wish to study engineering usually choose only from the popular 5 or 6 engineering branches and many colleges also have most of the seats in these branches because of this reason. But those who are looking out for versatile branch that offers bright future can actually check out for an alternative course like Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (M.M.E).

M.M.E or M.M.T is one among the engineering branches that have good job opportunities but is not a popular option among the students. Though there are totally 700 engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh state, only 7 educational institutions are offering this M.M.E course. The institutions offering this course branch are Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT), Hyderabad; JNTU Hyderabad; Andhra University, Visakhapatnam; N.I.T, Warangal and the three centers of RJUKT.

M.M.E is the best alternative

Every year more than 50 thousand students are getting their degrees in engineering branches like ECE, CSE, EEE, Mechanical etc. But in MME branch, the students who are getting their engineering degrees are not more than 200 and because of this reason they are having better Employment prospects compared to other engineering students.

Important role

M.M.E plays an important role in sectors like national security, nuclear, petrochemical industries, advanced materials, nano technology etc as it covers the technology and information about metals as part of the M.M.E course.

There are job opportunities in strategically important industries and research & development (R&D) for the M.M.E engineers. Moreover, in the coming five years there are plans to increase the production of iron and other metals multifold. Hence, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and Jindal steels are planning to recruit 1000 engineering graduates among which 300 posts are for the M.M.E graduates.

There are also vast research opportunities increasing in nano technology, special alloys and composite materials to take care of the requirements of sectors like security, nuclear, space research, metallurgy automobile and petrochemical industries. The old students of M.M.E have found jobs in top industries of both the private and public sectors.

Scope for Higher Education in M.M.E

Fresh M.M.E graduates are also eligible for the IT sector jobs as the branch covers courses like C++, Java and metallurgical computations as part of the under graduate semester syllabus.

Apart from IIT Gawahathi and IIT Delhi, all other IIT’s across the country are offering M.tech and PhD programs in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. Only 3000 students from final year M.M.E write the GATE exam while more than one lakh students compete from other popular disciplines. As this is the case there is very less competition for the M.M.E students join in the IIT.

In U.S, German and U.K almost 100 top universities offer post graduate courses in this MME branch.

Government Scholarships for M.M.E Students

For merit students in MME branch the Ministry of Steel, Indian Government has introduced Scholarships. At present 18 institutions in our country are offering these scholarships. Every year five scholarships of Rs. 10,000/- each, granted for 24 months for M.M.E Students. The program commences from the year 2013 to 2018. Similarly M.M.E students can also avail summer fellowships, internships and training under the guidance of national science academy, Indian national engineering academy, IIT‘s and so on.

So while choosing a branch in engineering better have a look on Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Branch.
