Study in United Kingdom, Education System in UK, Eligibility and VISA Procedures


About UK

United Kingdom is a small nation located off the north western coast of continental Europe and comprises of the third largest economy in the European Union. It is the busiest financial and trading center in the EU. The nation has rich culture with diverse population coming from different countries to settle down on the island. Almost 25% are born in different countries who are right now living in UK and the most commonly spoken language is English.

The UK education system

UK is famous for its education system which has got recognition across the world and some of the world’s top universities are located in UK offering different educational programs. Universities in UK offer different streams with almost 3800 public and private universities across the country. With multiple options to choose from different courses, one can easily find the field of their interest to pursue their education and moreover they can change their field during their study without losing any credits and can easily transfer to other universities if they are changing places.

Entry criteria

Academic eligibility: For applying to any undergraduate programs in UK, one need to complete their 10+2 or equivalent education along with the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) scores and to apply for the postgraduate course candidates need to fulfill 16 years of education with 4 years bachelors or equivalent degree. Some universities may also require the candidates to present their GRE scores for courses related to engineering stream. Students also need to present their past academic records however they can change their course or field if they can justify with a strong statement of purpose (SOP). Similarly management course admissions are open to all students but some universities prefer past work experience or GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) scores for admission into their universities.

Proficiency in English: Proficiency in English is an advantage to the students with good scores in IELTS, TOFEL or other proficiency tests in English if they want to study in United Kingdom.

Other admissions happen in January/February while some universities offer rolling intakes

Application process for UK VISA and UK Universities

The students who want to study in UK should understand the application process for UK visa. It is a two step process, where the students first need to apply to the universities with all appropriate documents like the application forms, academic records, work experience certificates if applicable and also the passport( call our office for a detailed list). The process for admission takes around 1 or 2 weeks time and on confirmation of the seat they need to pay fee for the first term (6 months).   

The universities than send in an acceptance letter on receipt of the fees that can be used as a proof for the visa process. It is always better to start applying for universities 2 or 3 months ahead before the study program starts.

Documents Required to Study in UK and for VISA

1. Three passport size photographs with students name written on the back of the photograph.
2. Xerox of mark sheets standard X or ‘O’ level onwards….
3. Provisional / Degree certificate.
4. Two reference letter on the Original letterheads only.
5. Statement of Purpose signed by the student.
6. TOEFL / IELTS scores if taken (please note if your English mark fall below 70% in ISE/CBSE/State
Board (+2 level), we suggest you to immediately make arrangements for TOEFL or IELTS exam to avoid unnecessary delay).
7. Submit any work experience certificates if you have any.
8. A erox of your passport – Front two pages and last two pages
9. CV signed by the student.

Work options in UK

All those international students pursuing their education in UK can indeed work for 20 hours per week and during holidays 40 hours per week. The pay for campus jobs ranges from 8 to 9 pounds per hour and the student’s spouse can work in case the course duration is for more than 1 year.

There is also a new program Tier 2 point based system introduced by the UKBA where students graduating from UK University shall be able to join a graduate level job offered by the registered companies in UK that pay around 20000 pounds and provide work for 3 years. The students who have completed their course are given permission to stay for 4 months in order to find work for a permanent job earning pounds 21000 to become eligible for the work permit.

Living costs - GBP 600 to GBP 800 pm outside London and GBP 800 to GBP 1000 Inside London

Tuition fee:

For Undergraduate students – GBP 8000 – GBP 12000
For Post graduate programs - GBP 8000 – GBP 12000 pa
For MBA program - GBP 9000 - GBP 15000

Obtaining UK Visa

One can apply online for the UK visa and make a physical appearance on the scheduled date along with detailed financial and academic documentation (for more details please visit our office). Candidates need to submit their visa application personally and there is no visa interview. However in some cases there may be queries and usually the visa process for UK takes around 3 weeks time.
