Chartered Accountancy as a career

Chartered Accountancy Employment NewsEducation doesn’t mean only engineering or medicine but there are so many other professional courses that are equivalent to the above. In those alternative courses that which stand in the first grade are the CA, CS, and CWA which guarantees employment upon completing them. Students from any group in intermediate can join in these courses. But when compared to other courses students need to put in more efforts to complete these courses. However one can expect salary equivalent to their hard work and also recognition guaranteed with these courses.

Chartered accountancy:

CA Course details:

Chartered accountancy course is offered in three phases. They are Common Proficiency Test (CPT), Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) and Final Course.

Common Proficiency Test:

The first phase in CA course is the CPT. this is just like an entrance test. Those who would like to choose Chartered Accountancy as their future career need to qualify in this test. For this on completion of 10th standard one should register their name in ICAI based on the 10th class certificate. Those students who have registered themselves get permission to appear for the CPT test on completion of their intermediate exams. For this they once again need to apply after completing their intermediate exams.

This CPT exam is conducted twice in the year (June/December). However to attend this exam there should be a gap of two months between applying for the test and writing the exam. It means that if one wants to appear the test in June they should submit their application before 1st of April and similarly if one wants to write the test in December then they need to submit their application before 1st of October.

Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC):

Those students who have qualified in the Common Proficiency Test need to register their name for the integrated professional competence course as part of the CA course. This course is offered in two groups as group-I and group-II. Based on their interest candidates can register their names for either of the groups or both the groups. After registering their name they should complete the nine months study course. Along with this they should also complete the 35 hours sessions of orientation course and 100 hours sessions of information technology course. Those who have completed these sessions only shall be allowed to write the group –I and group-II examinations of IPCC.

CA Final:

The students who have qualified in the two groups of IPCC are eligible to do the CA Final course. But before this the students who have completed IPCC should register their names for the article ship (as article assistant). This article ship has to be done under the chartered accountant who has recognition in the ICAI for three years duration. Once after registering for the article ship based on that one can register their names for the CA final course. Along with studying the CA final course in the last 12 months of the article ship one need to complete 15 days general management and communication skills course. Either after completing the 3 years article ship or in the last 6 months time of the article ship one should apply for the Chartered Accountancy final course examination. If one qualifies in this examination than they shall be considered as the full time chartered accountant.

Higher Education:

The government has given equivalent recognition to the CA course that shall be done based on only intermediate qualification with par to the bachelor degrees. In this manner those candidates who have done CA Final are eligible for the post graduation courses like M.Com or M.B.A. similarly they can also attend the civil services or group I exams and also competitive examinations that are conducted with an eligibility of degree qualification.

Career options with CA Course:

On completion of IPCC itself many organizations are offering job opportunities like accounts officer, internal auditor and relevant designation to the candidates. Those who have done their Final can earn a starting salary of 35 thousand rupees to one lakh. These salaries shall be much higher in abroad countries. Based on experience and skills one can reach top positions like finance director and CEO in their career path.

Chartered Accountancy Jobs in India:

In India one can find jobs in banks, insurance companies, financial institutes, stock broking firms, auditing firms and also many multinational companies with CA qualification.

Skills required for CA:

Patience is very important to go through the vast syllabus and understand the concepts in Chartered Accountancy. Similarly aspirants need to have the skills like logical thinking and tactic of applying the knowledge gained from books in the practically scenario. Keeping this in view only the ICAI has made it mandatory of three years article ship training. Candidates should have communication, social networking and speaking skills.
