One of the key positions in different companies is the company secretary designation. To get that job one has to finish their company secretary course. This course is offered by Institute of company secretaries of India in three phases. The three phases are foundation program, executive and professional program. Those who have done a degree in any stream can do the last two programs to complete the course. On completing executive or professional program they need to take 16 months training under the guidance of company secretary in any company.
Company Secretary Foundation program:
Those who have completed 10+2 are eligible to apply for this Company Secretary program. There are four papers in this program, English and business communication, economics and statistics, financial accounting, elements of business laws and management. The course duration is 8 months.
CS Executive program:
Those who have completed CS foundation program or completed degree (other than fine arts) can directly register their names for this program. Minimum program duration is one year. In this program there are two modules with each having three papers. So the candidates totally need to study six papers for this program.
CS Professional program:
On completing executive program one can register their name for the professional program. Minimum duration of the course is one year. There are four modules with two papers each and hence one should study total 8 papers. After completing the professional program one should attend training either in a company or under the company secretary for 16 months to get eligibility for the membership.
The course examinations are conducted every year in December and June. So if one can register before 31st march they can write the exams in December. If one registers before September 30th, than they can write the examination in June of the next year. If one is qualified in this exam than they can register their name for the professional executive course. To get the name registered one should contact Institute of company secretaries of India chapters. In our state we have the chapters in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
Job responsibility of Company secretary:
They should see that their organizations legal and regulatory issues are completed within time. They should also guide the company board on the administrative issues. Company secretary also plays an important role in building relations between the stock holders and the company board. Those who have completed company secretary course can join in capital market or investment relations departments as company secretaries or run their own practice.
