SSC List of Recruitment ExaminationsStaff Selection Commission every year conducts number of examinations and tests to fill up the vacancies at central and state level. The following are the list of examinations conducted by SSC every year and the eligibility of these tests.

SSC Stenographers (Grade C and D) Examination

Stenographers (Grade C and D) examination is a test conducted by SSC for the purpose of filling Stenographer vacancies in various Central Government departments and offices.

Eligibility conditions:

Qualifications: 10 + 2 pass or its equivalent.
Age: Should be between 18 and 27 years 

Selection procedure: Basing on Written Test and Skill Test.

Mode of examination: Test duration is 2 hours and it contains questions on General Intelligence (50 questions for 50 marks), General Awareness (50 questions for 50 marks), English Language and Comprehension (100 questions for 100 marks). All questions will be in multiple choice mode. Negative marks will be awarded for wrong answers.

Skill Test in Stenography: Those who secured the minimum prescribed marks will be called for Skill Test.

Staff Selection Commission Sub Inspectors, Assistant Sub Inspectors and Intelligence Officers Recruitment


SSC conducts nationwide examination every year for recruitment to the posts of Delhi Police, Sub Inspectors in Armed Forces, Assistant Sub Inspectors in Central Industrial Forces and Intelligence Officers in Narcotic Control Bureau.

Eligibility conditions:


Qualifications: Should hold a Degree from a recognised University and should fulfil the prescribed physical and medical standards.

Pay Scale: The pay scales for the above posts vary for each post. And one more thing is the pay scales may change after the announcement of 7th Pay Commission. There are many websites which gives information on 7th pay Commission and one such website is 7th Pay Commission Latest News.

Age: Between 20 and 25 years completed by the specified date

Selection procedure: Along with the written test conducted in two phases, selection will be based on test on candidate’s physical endurance, medical examination and interview/ personality tests.

Mode of examination: There will be 2 papers. First paper consists of General Intelligence and Reasoning (50 marks), General Knowledge and General Awareness (50 marks), Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks) and English Comprehension (50 marks). Answers to be identified within 2 hours. In Paper – 2, there will be 200 questions on English Language and Comprehension, each question for 1 mark for total marks of 200. Paper – 2 also to be answered in 2 hours. Questions in both the papers will be in multiple choice mode and negative marks will be awarded for wrong answers.

Physical fitness/ Medical examinations and Interview: Those who passed Paper – 1 will be called for physical fitness tests. They contain competitions like running race, long jump, high jump and shot-put. Those who pass out these tests will be allowed to write Paper – 2. Candidates, who pass out all these tests, will be called for interview.

SSC Combined Graduation Level Examination (CGLE)

To fill up the posts in the various Ministries, Organisations and departments under Central Government Staff Selection Commission conduct Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) every year. Such posts are quite attractive and include Income Tax Inspectors, Central Excise Inspectors, Inspector (Examiner, Preventive Officer), Assistant Enforcement Officer, Sub Inspectors in CBI and Inspectors in Central Bureau of Narcotics.

Eligibility conditions:

Qualifications: Should hold a Degree from a recognised University (for some posts a pass in Degree with some specified subjects) and should fulfil the prescribed physical and medication standards.
Age (completed years) by the specified date: Between 18 and 27 years for some posts and between 20 and 27 years for some other posts.

Selection procedure: It will be in two phases. In the first phase, a written test will be conducted. Those, who pass out the test, will be called for Computer Proficiency Test/ Interview/ Skill Test. For some posts, there will be no interview.

Mode of examination: First Tier – 1 examination will be conducted. It consists of questions in General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. Each section will be for 50 marks and all the questions will be in multiple choice mode. Answers to be identified within 2 hours.

Paper – 1 of Tier – 2 exam consists of Quantitative Ability (100 questions for 200 marks) and Paper -2 in English Language and Comprehension for 200 marks. Paper – 3 in Statistics is only for Statistical Investigator Grade -2 and Compiler posts. It is for 200 marks. All questions in all the papers will be in multiple choice mode and negative marks will be awarded for wrong answers. Each of the three papers will be for 2 hours duration.


SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (10 + 2) Examination (CHSLE)

Combined Higher Secondary Level examination is conducted by Staff Selection Commission for filling up Data Entry Operator and Lower Division Clerk posts in different departments.

Eligibility conditions:

Qualifications: Should pass XII class or equivalent examination.
Age (completed years) by the specified date: Between 18 and 27 years.

Selection procedure: Selection will be based on a written test, Data Entry Skill Test/ Typing Test. In the 2 hour duration written test, questions will be set on General Intelligence, English Language (basic knowledge), Quantitative Aptitude (basis arithmetic skill) and General Awareness. Each section contains 50 questions and they will be in multiple choice mode.

Data Entry Test/ Typing Test: Successful candidates in the written test will be called for Data Entry Test for Data Entry Operators and Typing Test for Lower Division Clerks.

SSC Junior Hindi Translators, Hindi Adhyapaks Recruitment


Eligibility conditions:

Qualifications: Should possess Master’s Degree or a Degree with English and Hindi subjects.
Age (completed years) by the specified date: Not more than 30 years.

Selection Procedure: Written Test and Personality Test.

Method of Written Examination: In Paper – 1, questions will be on Hindi and General English. Time allowed is 2 hours and all the questions will be in multiple choice mode. In Paper – 2, questions will be on Translation and Essay in conventional method. Marks - 200.

SSC Recruitment of Constables In Central Government Defence Organisations

SSC conducts an examination to fill up Constable and Rifleman posts in Indo Tibetan Border Police Force, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Sashastra Seema Bal (Armed Border Force) and Assam Rifles.

Eligibility conditions:

Qualifications: X class pass or its equivalent.
Age (completed years) by the specified date: Between 18 and 23 years.

Selection procedure: Selection will be based on Physical Fitness Test, Physical Endurance Test, Written Test and Medical examination.


Mode of examination: Candidates found fit in Physical Standard Test and Physical Fitness Test will be allowed to write the Written Test, which contains questions on General Intelligence and Reasoning (25 questions), General Knowledge and General Awareness (25 questions), English/ Hindi (25 questions) with a total of 100 marks in all. Questions will be in multiple choice mode.

Other Posts Recruited by Staff Selection Commission

Depending on the vacancies arise, SSC releases notifications for recruitment to the cadres of Assistant Drug Inspector, Data Processing Assistant, Senior Technical Assistant, Research Investigator (Forestry), Technician, Assistant (Legal), Research Assistant, Wild Life Inspector, Assistant Curator, Botanical Assistant, Junior Technical Assistant, Library and Information Assistant, Security Supervisor, Fisheries Research Investigator, Planning Assistant, Market Intelligence Inspector, Assistant Exhibition Officer and Junior Wireless Operator. There is no written test for these posts. Candidates will be shortlisted for interview basing on their academic record. Interview will be for 100 marks.

In addition to the above posts, SSC recruits Programme Executives, Transmission Executives and Transmission Executives (Production Assistants) in Prasar Bharathi. Along with them, recruitment to the posts of Junior Engineer (Civil, Electrical and Mechanical) in the Engineering department will also be taken up.
