How to Crack SSC CGL?

SSC CGL is the gateway to your dream job. The two key questions you must know the answers of are – What to Prepare and How to Prepare for the competitive exam.

What to Prepare

Expect questions on General Intelligence and Reasoning (Verbal and Non-verbal), English, General Awareness and Quantitative Aptitude. The difficulty level is medium and there is no reasoning in Tier II exam.

To do well in General Intelligence and Reasoning, you need to hone up your logical thinking ability. This can be achieved with regular practice. You need to focus more on Basic Reasoning Concepts, Analogies, Directions, Coding-Decoding, Ranking, Venn-Diagrams and Blood Relations.

English is the scoring section of SSC CGL. Moreover, it is there in Tier I as well as Tier II, and the weightage is also high (50 marks in Tier I and 200 marks in Tier II). Prepare for Passages, Common Errors, Antonyms, Synonyms and Cloze Test. You also need to improve your vocabulary.

General Awareness sections tests your knowledge of national and international affairs, history, general science, geography, economy, polity, science and technology. Focus on getting good marks in this section.

For doing well in Quantitative Aptitude, get good grip on the basic concepts of Math and improve calculation speed. Work on Numerical Ability, Profit-Loss, Probability, Interest, Averages, Partnerships, Time and Distances, Algebra and Trigonometry, and Speed and Distances. The section carries the weightage of 250 marks (50 marks in Tier I and 200 marks in Tier II).

How to Prepare

It begins with making a time table, which depends on the preparation level and the time left. If you have previously prepared for a competitive exam, you can start picking topics and learning/practicing them. If you are doing it for the first time, you may require some warm up before you begin actual practice. This includes memorizing basic Math tables, Formulas, Place Values of Alphabets, etc.
